this is why people complain about ub that doesn't fit well with magic. 100% makes sense from a star trek pov, makes 0 sense from a magic pov

So what you're saying is that it doesn't fit Magic?

Is there an explanation to why the Warp mechanic did not make a return for this set? or Explore? or Discover? I see a few examples made it into the commander decks

I think it would be cool for and not go against the card design for a static effect like changeling to be on the card named “spacefaring” or some such effect and it has the “alien” creature type for purposes of being able to widen an alien tribal deck. It’s not like it’s a slur or generalization going against Star Trek but more so meant to be a creature type that exists and means “not of Earth”.

I don't mind the Star Trek set getting all of their unique types, but this doesn't explain why viashino had to be erased

But this is absolutely precedent to do this in future UB sets? Not even giving a counter argument besides "nuh-uh" when you can easily go look back at all the one off UB typelines they've already added.

I think sets like this should have a parallel to a core type. A Klingon deck is gonna have roughly the same cards in it without much difference between them. If Klingons were all reskinned Warriors they could have cross play with those types or something

Make sure you ask the Prof again, because even as a non Star Trek fan this is the part that makes this set stand out over other recent UB for me.

Sontaran feels to me like an iconic Doctor Who species that should have had its own creature type. I get what you're saying in this video about different UB properties getting handled differently, but it still feels strange to me to see Strax as just an Alien next to extremely obscure Star Trek species like Excalbian and Na'kuhl.

Its a core tenant of star trek sure, but not magic, and this is magic. Them not being aliens just seems excessive

While we're talking about interesting creature type choices, was the fact that Astrid Peth is typed as a human despite just being a humanoid Alien in the story an oversight? I'd love to hear what that was about because it's bothered me for ages.
