@skydivinggearstor: One of the most common mistakes made by a beginner skydiver when landing downwind is a premature flare. First, you need to understand that landing into a headwind, in calm conditions, or downwind is merely a matter of horizontal movement speed, which is not as dangerous as vertical speed. Our primary task during landing is to dissipate the vertical speed; the horizontal speed is also dissipated, but that is a secondary priority. As a rule, a beginner skydiver's sensations tell them "it's time already," … but in fact, they are still higher! Why?! This happens because, due to inexperience, they fixate on a point on the surface, which approaches faster when downwind. This creates the feeling that there is no time to hesitate, and a bell rings in their head: “I'm going to hit the ground, act now!” And indeed, they only hit the ground due to the vertical speed that remains at the end of the flight. Simple preparatory exercises and a sweeping gaze during landing, as well as correctly converting forward speed into horizontal movement, will make your landing more confident and predictable. P.S. jump safely‼️
