I witnessed it happen, I was headed east on 56 and was traveling right next to the train. Scariest thing to see and feel helpless.

So fun fact, I guess you could say it I used to work for a short line railroad in Ohio the wheeling and Lake Erie, that was the name of the railroad like I said a class B small outfit. I was a conductor and most people don’t know the engineers is not in charge of that train. The conductor calls all the shots. The conductor builds that train most people think the other way around that’s not true so we consistently have all these safety meetings and I will tell you right now and I don’t know I wasn’t in Gardner today. I don’t know what the circumstances were. I don’t know how fast that train was going I don’t, but they will tell you straight out that you have to weigh your options in the seconds almost like a cop, pulling his weapon because depending on what that train is pulling and you lock up that train, it could take a half a mile or a mile to stop it. Secondly you’re told to hit the car or the semi or the lowboy trailer because it cost a lot less for the railroad to pay a settlement than it does to stop the freight in America now again I don’t know the circumstances I know the kids play chicken with trains me and my friends used to do it and it was stupid but we did it. Almost had to make that call one time in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. We went there to pick up iron ore and there was an idiot playing chicken with the train and mind you I was 27 I think maybe and the whole control that situation was in my hands and I had to look at that engineer at 27 years old, knowing that I had a daughter and a wife and I knew what the manifest of our train was. We had chemicals but fertilizer we had regular freight and I had to look at that engineer and say don’t you stop this train. It’ll make a man out of you real quick, but I can tell you this trains do not stop so listen here to be learned. If you got kids have a conversation with them about that the train will not stop and I will say after having had that job before this is gonna sound very cold but in the average train now is between one and a half, and 2 miles long you have to consider how many lives you’re affecting by potential derail of that train. That one driver of that one car it’s not worth it. Hit the car.

I work at the CapFed in price chopper and a customer told us about it we went to look and I was just praying now children were in it. I found out it was a 20 year old male driving I hope he’s ok haven’t heard many updates 🤍

So many long trains go through there. You can be waiting a very long time to get over those tracks. Which if you go through that way alot, it gets annoying. Plus what one or more people has been hit on foot in past. I kno you can go towards trailer park and go back by walmarts and come back around to get back over to moonlight rd. They need to do something, build a bridge over that track or something where your not sitting stuck for long time sitting waiting in your veh to get over the tracks, then gets worse if another super long train comes thru when ones almost through. I hope who was in the veh is alright.

Who still remembers when a guy was running to beat the train after shopping and got hit by the train? I saw everything it i cant forget it evrytime I pass by
