Running a dell optiplex in my setup mith 32gb of ram. 1vm with home assistant. 1 container with music assistant, 1 with frigate, 1 with immich, 1 with paperless ngx, 1 with scrypted, 1 with go2rtc, immich and frigate are storing on my unifi unas pro with 12tb of memory. And, immich doesnt copy the photos and videos from my phone but they are pulled directly out of icloud, with sync every hour.

Google home and Alexa are free for automation. Google drive is free up to a normal users capacity. Why is it worth dropping £100s on a home server when these online cloud companies do it fine?

92w! I have 80w with 8 SAS SSDs, 3 SATA SSDs, 13900, 10GbE SFP+. Was SAS cheaper for you?

WTF what are These specs? I run all of These with just 32 GB RAM where 20GB is used. Only one 1 TB SSD for the VMs / LXC Containers and for the Movies etc. two external HDD in mirror Mode.

That’s some monster spec. You could sell half your RAM, keep all your services and buy a second house. 🤣. I’m running 4 second hand dell/hp thin clients with proxmox. Three of them are in a k8s cluster for my services. Before everyone comes for me I know k8s it completely unnecessary in a homelab but I do it for work and having somewhere to experiment is handy.

I also have a home lab, but it does not just replace the other options; Home Assistant is just a nice extra. The photo and document clouds are nice, but for services like Jellyfin, if you use them, you still need to buy the films if you want to be legal, and while your home lab is incredibly powerful, the problem I see is that you end up paying more money for electricity than you would for the subscriptions.

With jellyfin you can replace also Spotify with Symfonium/Finamp (phone) and Feishin (pc) as client 😉
