You know, i cried so hard watching this movie. They betrayed him and send him to die far away. Everyone else accepted their destinies but him. He didn't sign up for such a mission.

The book made it SO much worse cause Stratt actually gave him a sense of false hope by giving him an “option” to decide quickly so they could “Get the backup” asap. Then when he found out it wasn’t an option Stratt pretty much told him that the only reason why she kept him around was to be the backup and only that. Not because she liked his company, but because she knew he had the gene and could be a backup
