@spot.the.scam: She needs gift cards for a plane ticket to come see you? It's a romance scam. 🚩 Dave has been talking to "Jess" online for months — but they've never met. Every date gets cancelled (one was a volcano 🌋). Now she needs $600 in gift cards for a plane ticket, or she can't come see him. Gift cards only. Hurry, babe. The FTC warned about this in February 2026: romance scammers say they can't meet you in person, or they make plans to meet but always need to cancel. Then they ask for money — for example, for a plane ticket to come visit you. The FTC says: if someone you haven't met in person asks for money, that's a scam. And only scammers tell you to pay with gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency. The signs to watch for: 1. You've never met in person 2. They always have a reason to cancel 3. A sudden money problem: a ticket, a blocked card, an emergency 4. They want gift cards, a wire transfer or crypto What to do: • Never send money or gifts to someone you haven't met in person, even if they send you money first • Talk to someone you trust about your new love interest • Do a reverse image search of their profile photo Already sent money? • Stop all contact • Call the gift card company right away, and contact your financial institution • File a report with your local police • Report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, and tell the app or site where you met All names, numbers and messages in this video are fictional.
