@brittanyfromwisconsin: 🚨 STUDENT LOAN BORROWERS — PLEASE READ THIS. 🚨 If your federal student loans are serviced by Nelnet, MOHELA, Aidvantage, Edfinancial, or another servicer, you need to know about Borrower Defense to Repayment. This is worth looking into if you believe your school misled you, left out important information, or misrepresented what you were signing up for when you took out student loans. Examples include: 🎓 You weren’t clearly told that your financial aid included loans you would have to repay. 💰 Your school misrepresented the total cost of your education, financial aid, or loan repayment terms. 📚 You were misled about accreditation, transferable credits, degree requirements, or the education you would receive. 💼 You were given misleading information about job placement, career prospects, or expected earnings. 📄 Your school promised educational services or other important benefits it failed to provide. Don’t automatically rule yourself out because your loans have been in deferment, you’ve had late payments, another forgiveness application was denied, or you’re still paying on your balance. Those facts alone don’t establish eligibility, but they shouldn’t stop you from investigating whether your school’s conduct qualifies. If you were young, financially independent, or making major education decisions without fully understanding the financial commitment, review the application carefully and explain your actual circumstances truthfully. ⏳ Don’t put off researching your options. The Department of Education warns that application reviews can take years. Applying does not guarantee approval, and you should verify your repayment obligations while your application is pending. 🔗 OFFICIAL APPLICATION: https://studentaid.gov/borrower-defense/ Save this. Share it with someone carrying student debt. Read the eligibility requirements and see whether your experience qualifies. #BorrowerDefense #StudentLoans #StudentLoanDebt #BorrowerDefenseToRepayment #StudentLoanRelief

They're in forbearance, according to your screenshot, with the interest accruing daily. Good luck with all that.

Just let them take your tax refund that way it doesn’t affect your monthly budget. My sons went from 24k to 45k because of interest. Ridiculous

Mine said it was due some years from now also. However, they also sent that letter and several email to let me know I had 30 days to switch plans. That deferment date didn't mean we didn't have to switch plans and yes I'm with Nelnet too. Them folks say my payments start next month. That could be misleading what you're saying. Oh and it still says that deferment date some years from now followed by the amount due next month.

Please make sure your school is on the list and you have actual documents to attach to the application. The application takes hours and will sometimes give you an error when you go to submit. There's a reddit page about the error message. After several attempts, I hand wrote mine and mailed it certified so they would need to sign for it. I hope this helps 🙂

That is forbearance not deferment. That date is also just a placeholder, and filing borrower defense if it doesn’t apply to you is a crime.

I want to add to your video. I did the borrowers defense in 2022. it took 4 years for the government to forgive my loans in their totality. You want to make sure your school is part of the ones that qualify for this. Don't feel discouraged, just be patient.

Interest will accrue and you won’t earn credit for forgiveness while in deferment. And there’s no guarantee of a positive outcome with BDR. In fact it’s extremely difficult to get loans discharged under BDR. Staying in forbearance for that long with a very uncertain outcome can be a devastating mistake!
