C-SPAN's "Ceasefire" — Former DNC Chair Donna Brazile called the Peltola campaign's alleged involvement in recruiting a spoiler candidate "fishy," describing the effort as "trickery." "I was astonished that they went, you know, to that degree of trickery to try to recruit somebody when, in fact, you didn't have to do that," she said. "I mean, Mr. Sullivan, like every other status-quo politician had enough headwind that they didn't need to do that." The New York Times reported Wednesday that members of U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola's (D-AK) campaign were involved in efforts to recruit another "Dan Sullivan" to enter the race in hopes of drawing votes away from her Republican opponent, incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK). Her campaign has denied involvement. "If she did it with the DNC, that's a problem," former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel said. "I mean, if she did it and she knew about it and she's lying, I definitely think this is not where she wants to close." The Justice Department filed a lawsuit last week, at President Trump's behest, seeking to block certification of the results if Sen. Sullivan loses by fewer votes than the other Sullivan on the ballot receives. Democrats blasted the lawsuit, portraying it as an attempt by the Trump administration to interfere in the election process. "This is the corruption AK is fed up with, and it's why I'm in this race," Ms. Peltola said of the lawsuit. "Sullivan has enriched himself at our expense for 12 years. Now he's using his DC allies to try to keep himself in power and put his own interests ahead of Alaskans." Ms. McDaniel said the lawsuit should be viewed in a new light following the New York Times report. "I think everybody who was saying the DOJ lawsuit was ridiculous, I think now is stepping back and going, after that New York Times report, 'we do need to look into this further,'" she said.
