We are told his perspective. He thinks the only way to keep civilizations from collapsing due to resource constraints is to kill half of everyone. But that’s flawed from the jump because people will just make more people, and he’ll just have to keep wandering the universe wiping people out.

Didn’t we not watch the movies? We saw his perspective. He thought he was doing right after watching his people die of lack of resource. Then we find out he’s just short sighted and not intelligent. Because he jumps to killing half of everyone. Instead of, with the Infinity Stones, creating infinite resources, thus saving everyone.

In the comics Thanos worshipped Death. Death in Marvel is portrayed as a beautiful woman and Thanos wanted to impress her. So he got all the infinity stones and did the snap. It was never about resources or anything like that he just did it to impress a lady
