@yacht_buoy: She looks like a traditional Dutch working kotter, but she was never a workboat. This is Jip, a Noorderlicht 50 Spiegelkotter, built new in steel in 2005 to a design by Willem Nieland, the Dutch naval architect behind the Globemaster expedition yachts. "Spiegel" is Dutch for mirror, and it refers to her flat transom. Behind it sits a full-beam owner's cabin, an idea that goes back to the spiegeljacht pleasure yachts of the 18th century. Her round-bilged steel hull was welded by a small yard called KBS in Koudekerk aan den Rijn, and her owner managed the fit-out, with Corian worktops and Miele appliances in the galley and a full Raymarine nav suite with AIS. At 14.99 metres she sleeps six across two cabins: an owner's cabin with a double berth and en suite head, and a guest cabin with a double and a stacked bunk, so there is room for family and friends. A draft of just 1.3 metres and a 3.2 metre air draft, with her mast lowered electrically, mean she can explore the Dutch canals, the IJsselmeer and, with some tidal planning, the Frisian harbours of the Wadden Sea. She runs on a single 158hp DAF DK1160, a marinised version of the 11.6 litre six that powered DAF's trucks and buses for decades, with a Mastervolt generator and solar panels too. She is listed for sale in the Netherlands at €235,000 VAT paid (approx. £196,400 / $261,600). My full write-up is in my free explorer yacht newsletter. Link in my bio. Would you cruise her on the canals or take her out onto the Wadden Sea? #boattok #yachttok #spiegelkotter #dutchsteel #liveaboard
