@godofisraelisevil666: Did you know Tucson's history dates back to 1775, when it was established as a Mexican walled fortress city? That's ONE YEAR BEFORE the US Declaration of Independence! 🇺🇸❌ Colonel Hugo O’Conor founded the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson on August 20, 1775. This fully walled adobe fortress, with 12-foot-high walls, was built to protect El Camino Real from Mexico and stands as the oldest walled city in Arizona. Here's a quick timeline: 📍 Aug 20, 1775: Tucson founded as Mexican presidio. 📍 July 4, 1776: US Declaration of Independence. 📍 1783: Mission San Xavier del Bac built by Tohono O’odham & Mexicans (still stands today). 📍 1775-1856: Tucson was Spanish & Mexican for 81 years. They call it the Old Pueblo, but it was originally the Mexican Pueblo Amurallado. Long before the University of Arizona or downtown, a Mexican walled city thrived on the Santa Cruz River, hosted by the Tohono O’odham people. Why is it often called an American desert city when its roots are so deeply Mexican? 👇 SHARE if you didn’t know this vital piece of Tucson’s past! #MexicoTheyErased #TucsonHistory #ArizonaHistory #PresidioSanAgustin #TohonoOodhamHistory

Why do they have it walled off? I thought borders were something wrong.

Mexican (Aztec, Mexica), Opata, Tohono O’Odham, Pasqua Yaqui (Hiaki) were all here for several millennia. Some scholars suggest more than 25,000 years.
