the thing that worked best for me to become more strategic and did ultimately make a huge difference for me was spending an hour or two thinking about what needs to be true for me to do less work. that made analyze my day to day at a high level, see where things could benefit from a new initiative or strategy, and then just take action. its made me very successful since i started doing it.

Thank you!!! I’ve been saying that admin/task work becomes so difficult that when I need to discuss/think strategy and discuss the work being done it’s so hard because I’m so focused on smaller things and lose focus of the whole picture

Ive found it’s so much easier to do this when you’re privy to key information that the higher ups base their decision making on. I build those reports and I’m in a lot more of those leadership meetings now, but it was so much harder when I wasn’t being included in them. Do you have any advice for someone ready to take the next step and become a manager in another company, without having had that title before? Proving yourself as able to manage a team is harder when they don’t know you and I worry about having to start from scratch elsewhere, putting in years before getting promoted.

The problem is as a strategist, I’m measured against both strategic thinking AND tangible deliverables. And that’s hard to find that time when deliverables are constantly cranked out and my calendar is never prioritized across our sleeve

Strategic thinking is how I approach projects. Issue is my supervisor presses me to provide outlines on projects that can wait that I’m overseeing.. yet they don’t provide upfront outlines of on what they need but once you generate ideals, they’re all over you.
