Selon la préfecture de l'Isère, le blocage a duré plus de deux heures, avant l'intervention vers 18h30 de l'ERIS de Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, l'unité d'élite de l'administration pénitentiaire. L'opération a duré une trentaine de minutes, et tous les détenus avaient regagné leur cellule vers 19h.
