Police in Florida say he's now charged for what happened inside a car. According to a police report obtained by TMZ, Berlanga was driving with the mother of his child in Polk County on Oct. 18 when an argument turned violent. Police say he slapped her, then pulled out a pistol and struck her in the head with it. When she tried to jump out of the car, the report says he grabbed her arm to keep her inside until she broke free and ran to a 7-Eleven, where bystanders called police. Officers said they saw swelling and bruising on her forehead. She told them the gun was real because they had been at a gun range about 20 minutes earlier. She did not want to press charges, but police arrested him anyway because it was a domestic violence case. Berlanga, 29, was arrested Monday and appeared at the courthouse in Bartow on Tuesday, where bond was set at $16,000. He is charged with felony aggravated battery, which carries up to 15 years in prison, and misdemeanor battery. His arraignment is set for Nov. 17. The 24-2 super middleweight lost to Canelo Alvarez in September 2024, is signed to Dana White's Zuffa Boxing, and knocked out Steven Butler at Madison Square Garden in July. Scott's take: People always think a case goes away when the victim doesn't want to press charges. In Florida domestic violence cases it doesn't; the state presses them, and her statement at the 7-Eleven and the bruises the officers wrote down can come in without her.
