Texas Marine here: I grew up in Conroe. Played football as a Tiger. My dad hung sheetrock until he couldn’t. My mom always had dinner on the table and my grandma made sure I went to church. My grandpa is buried in the Houston Veterans Cemetery after serving in WW2. I was raised on our state motto: friendship and taught to take care of our neighbors no matter what because it was about what we could give, not what they did with it. Texas took pride in being “a whole different country” and not kneeling to DC. We cheered for them good ol’ Duke boys, never for the sheriff. I don’t recognize this place anymore or the men feigning toughness while whining about everything. We have lost our integrity, identity, and way. I voted blue all the way down the ballot and I’m not gonna lose track of anyone that put us in this predicament. Ever. To the minority people among us, be they people of color, LGBTQ, women, Muslim, or anyone else: I will always have your back. You’re now my people. Always.
