@everything.catholic: 🕊️ Pope Leo XIV is going back to Peru, less than four weeks after lung cancer surgery. From the Holy See Press Office, Vatican News, AP and Peru's news agency Andina, October 2026. On 13 October surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Pope's right lung, where a cancer had been found. On 26 October the Vatican said his checkups showed no reason not to travel, and reports say he needs no further cancer treatment. His trip runs 6 to 17 November: Uruguay, then Argentina, then Peru from 11 November. Peru is personal. He arrived there as a young missionary in 1985 and became a Peruvian citizen in 2015. The 4 stops in Peru: 1️⃣ Lima. The capital, where the Peru leg begins. 2️⃣ Chiclayo. The diocese he led as its bishop from 2015 until Pope Francis called him to Rome in 2023. Organisers expect about a million people at the Mass. 3️⃣ Cusco. A city about 3,400 metres up in the Andes. It stayed on the route after his surgery, and reports say a specialised ambulance will travel with the papal party. 4️⃣ Pucallpa. A city in Peru's Amazon rainforest. Send this to someone who has been praying for him. The Church's old prayer for the Pope is short enough to say every day of the trip: "Let us pray for Leo, our Pope. May the Lord preserve him, give him life, make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies." "The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and for evermore."
