I am métis and i’m slowing reconnecting with my culture! I just started learning Michif this year and one day I really hope I get the opportunity to attend a powwow. I just hope when I am able to connect more to my culture that I am met with open arms; it’s such a interesting experience to connect to my métis culture because I one get the perspective of being white passing and sometimes I feel guilty about that, because there are so many Indigenous people who are affected much more than me by our colonial government. I know I deserve to have space within the Indigenous community, it just feels like I won’t ever truly fit because I am so disconnected

im so tired, I just want to go back and dance but its so hard. ive been taking a break for months now last powwow I had I was just crying on the floor for like an hour before leaving. Mental health , drama and everything really takes a toll and I just wish we were kinder towards one another.

There’s so many complicated reason people may be disconnected from their community and from hearing from others and especially my own family’s experiences a lot of familys have had very negative and hurtful pasts with that side of the family and that’s why they were disconnected it’s such a multifaceted issue.

It goes way beyond pw ring, I’ve been reconnecting since 2020 but my community is just not okay at all. I pissed off my aunt (chairwoman) because I don’t like that they have flock cameras on the res itself… but I got band from pw because of that. I know I’m controversial but how tf you gonna band me from pw because I told what flock is really about. And someone made a lie about me and I completely destroyed that with showing screenshots. So there is also that but hey that seems to be the tradition on my res I never grew up on the res so maybe lying about what other people do is a tradition passed down 🤷🏽♂️i wouldn’t know because I can’t even get up there to learn anything anymore.

pretty screwed up about the politics of the circle also - good snag ? first place - got some big money for the judges FIRST PLACE skilled in bead work and u donate to the powwow committee FIRST PLACE that's why my pimped out self stays outside the arena at the stands - spend some money and go home because it just ain't entertaining like it was in the 90s - I remember U.T.T.C. powwow went through out the night it would be almost noon when the announcers finally left the stand that final time - coffee all night jokes and teasing - now it's boring - u don't see anybody having fun like the good old days - I remember being a kid and playing below the bleachers I found money and toys - ohh to be a kid in the 90$ again

Native families are so broken and it’s because no one has the capability of understanding or even trying to. All claim they’re so “spiritual and loving and caring” but the second you don’t understand something they say or don’t do as they say then it’s “youre a bad kid, you weren’t raised right” but the whole Rez is all ugly and no one actually does anything productive. It’s easy to say and do when you ain’t actively doing anything positive for anyone.
