@anna..papalia: Stop confessing and telling them everything! Dont say anything until you get a job offer. If they don’t ask, don’t say anything. Don’t get things off your chest. Dont be transparent. Don’t give them the reasons why. Do not tell them anything unless they ask you on a job application or make you an offer. You are not legally required to volunteer your criminal record if the law or application doesn't demand it. When they say, “the offer is contingent upon a criminal background check” is when you have to tell them that you had a dui in 2019. Do not tell them before they make you an offer. Do not lie and say you’re criminal record is clear because if they find something that you didn’t disclose they won’t hire you because you lied. Lying on an application is usually grounds for immediate termination or a rescinded offer if discovered during a background check. Keep your written answer brief, such as noting that you are open to discussing it in person. #backgroundcheck #jobinterview #jobsearch #careeradvice
Candidate told me they just got out of jail… for assaulting prior manager. Only guy I ever failed for the fucking Lunch Interview 🙄.

it was joke! I was 5 min late legitimately because of traffic. he was smug and asked why ibwas 5 min late. "Car wouldn't start so I had the old lady blow into it to get it started." he didnt think it was funny but the joke really wasnt for him.

Didn’t tell my current employer I am Type 1 diabetic. Ended up having to talk to corporate HR about it and accommodations. I get nervous when I have low sugars for fear of loosing my job. I know they can’t fire me for it but they can make something up.

They check your credit? If living on unemployment or gig work in between jobs, that can tank until your income goes back up and you can catch up

absolutely. tbh, people could do a better job at withholding vulnerable information about themselves. it can easily be misconstrued and used against you, especially upon initial meetings. this doesn’t even just go for interviews.

Depending on your state, they can ask if you have been convicted of a crime, and you must answer honestly, otherwise you risk termination or rejection if caught. Some state or local governments do not allow this question during the interview stage, but many do.

A few years ago I told a hiring manager that we were definitely not a match, and wished her luck on finding the right candidate for the job. She was absolutely insulted after being so rude to me the entire time. Been with my current employer 5 years now with no plans on leaving. It gets better, people.
