@maybeej12: Adding a nightlatch to my cart. Never rode a rearer before so yes I know you are supposed to pull down to the side, I’m still figuring it out. I was not expecting her to go up because you can see she was standing quietly when she did. Extra info about her: She was not trained properly and she’s 16. So this is really all she knows. She is not in pain, she has been vet cleared twice, and the set up is super light. It is purely training errors. She rears because she does not like standing still. She has been long reining for a while and this is the 2nd ride of working on stops under saddle. 2 days before this she stood and backed fine so you can probably understand why I was not expecting this. #horse #horsetraining #barrelracing #horseriding #fyp
Hey girly. Pull her head around instead of continuing to pull back. Continuing to pull back may result in her flipping on you. I’d recommend pulling her around and once you get all 4 feet on the ground, keep her head bent and immediately get loud and make her move her feet. When she gets soft, release her head and let her move out normally. The goal is to pull her head around before she gets too vertical. If you keep pulling back, she’ll just go up more and more. Try to find your balance and don’t rely on the reins to keep you in your seat. Rearing is one of the most dangerous problems to have. Good luck!

You really don’t even need to pull to the side just put your hands up higher on the neck I’ve ridden plenty of rears and I always just put my hands up

She needs to flip over fully, clearly not with you in harms way! But if she goes over she will learn that it did nothing but hurt, or she will see it as a way of getting out of situations and continue to do it… ugh rearing is the worst. 😅

The only thing that kept you on was holding onto them reigns. Then pulling back wasn’t super intentional 😭 I would have been terrified! I’ll take a Bronc over any rearing horse any day

Too many good horses in the world to deal with one that does that😂 unless she wins absolutely everything you take her to send her packing😂

Why was everyone’s fast reaction about the horses head moving side to side? I immediately was impressed with how well she stayed on when the horse literally was basically standing up straight

Hey so most of these comments are not it lol. You did what you thought you could in a moment full of adrenaline and you’re learning from it. That’s good! I rode one of these for a while and it ended in a broken pelvis. Be careful, and keep learning how to protect yourself and your horse.
