Honestly, some don’t ask. Or if they do ask, say something between the lines of “the company decided to go in a different path that doesn’t align with my career goals and therefor, the company and I have gone our separate ways” and yes don’t over explain it will look fishy.

Can you bring up how to talk about leaving a job 6 months ago bc you were burnt out and the place was toxic (I KNOW NOT TO SAY THAT!!!!). Alternatively - if looking at jobs in a different field, how to bring that up while unemployed bc you left your old job.

Rehearse the follow-up questions before they ask. Paste your CV into ChatGPT: act as a sceptical interviewer, highlight every claim you would challenge and write the question you would ask. Then the layoff line holds.

how about telling the truth and simply say that you got laid off and then shortly explain to the interviewer that it happens and that's part of being employed. Would that affect their decision if the want to hire you? I don't know what explanation you have to give if you got fired though until I say this video[Tears of joy]

Telling the position got eliminated does make perfect sense! If HRs can use it as an excuse to not tell you the truth about your poor performance it should be okay people that are being laid off use it as well. It's incredbile how it aaall comes down to "who's got the upper hand".. Goddd😤😤😤
