@doctorbrainbarbie: This one was hard to film. 💔💜 As an epileptologist, I know how devastating SUDEP is. And reading about what happened to Bowen Wan absolutely broke my heart. I’ve spent years caring for people with epilepsy, having difficult conversations about seizure risks and helping patients navigate treatment decisions that can profoundly affect their lives. And one thing I’ve learned is that patients rarely come to us with simple, textbook problems. They come with fears about medication side effects. Financial pressures. Competing responsibilities. Questions about whether the treatment helping one part of their life might be making another part harder. Those concerns are legitimate. They deserve to be heard, investigated and addressed. And that’s what makes this case so troubling. We are entering an era where medical information is more accessible than ever before. But accessibility creates an enormous responsibility for the systems delivering that information. There is a fundamental difference between helping someone understand their treatment options and directing them through a potentially dangerous medical decision. A confident answer is not necessarily a safe answer. And sometimes the most important thing a medical professional can do is recognize uncertainty, understand the risks and know when NOT to recommend something. I am not against artificial intelligence in healthcare. I believe it has tremendous potential to improve education, access and even clinical care when used responsibly. But I am deeply concerned about what happens when people mistake a system’s ability to generate convincing answers for the ability to exercise sound clinical judgment. Patients deserve better than false certainty. They deserve to have their concerns taken seriously without being placed at unnecessary risk. And when technology enters the space between patients and their medical care, patient safety must come before everything else. My heart goes out to Bowen’s family. I hope her story leads to meaningful conversations about accountability, safeguards and the responsibility that comes with providing medical information to vulnerable people. 💜💖 Legal disclaimer: This video discusses allegations made in a pending wrongful death lawsuit against OpenAI. my chat gpt is dramatic af and tells me I need emergency care constantly. I ignore it cos I don't have time to wait 14 hours to not get seen. I was super sick from high levels from my lacosamine. tried to call 2 neurologist and a Dr. no one bothered calling back.

I can’t believe she would even try to get off it without consulting a practitioner. It’s ok to use AI as a way to get textbook information but I wouldn’t recommend it for something like a “25 day plan” for getting off meds. I literally found out about this story from my newsmax notification

I have chatted about epilepsy so many times to learn for my son and not once has it ever said to get off your meds on your own as a matter of fact it clearly says DO NOT.

After having a seizure to a commonly prescribed IV antibiotic in the hospital I was put on Depacote by my pediatric neurologist. I took it at various doses over 3 years and I would end up falling asleep towards the end of the school day regardless of how long I slept at night. They eventually took me off of it and I never had another seizure. Just can’t have that IV antibiotic or anything it’s related to. I’ve been seizure-free for 22 years. Thankfully it was a one-time thing. I’m sorry for her loss

A mi también me paso y tomo lamotrigina por epilepsia en el lubulo temporal izquierdo. Nunca usen IA para recomendaciones médicas. Es tentador pero nunca termina bien.

AI has told me many times to NEVER stop or make unprompted changes to medications without speaking to a doctor because it can trigger seizures in people with epilepsy. it also constantly warns you if you mention any potentially concerning symptoms (even if you yourself know theyre typical for you). im not buying it. besides she was definitely old enough to know better.
