@themindhive: On the morning of May 21, 2018, a gray and black backpack sitting on an electrical box on West Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee shut down several blocks of the city center for more than two hours. Milwaukee police and the FBI responded to the 911 call, cordoned off the intersection, and sent an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician in a full bomb suit to move the package into the middle of the street for X-ray analysis. While the technician stepped back to review the results, a 39-year-old man named Matthew Hughes rode his bicycle past the police tape, approached the backpack, and dumped its contents onto the street. A bystander named Robert Harris, who had originally called in the suspicious package, watched it happen. "He rode past me and he was saying, 'I'm going to diffuse this situation," Harris later told reporters. The search lasted about ten seconds. Hughes then shrugged and tossed the bag aside. FBI agents and Milwaukee police officers tackled Hughes immediately. He was taken into custody and later charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer. The backpack turned out to contain water bottles, clothing, and a camping mattress pad. Hughes told WISN-TV afterward that he had seen the scene on morning news coverage, decided the investigation had gone on long enough and rode straight to the scene with the intention of being a hero. #milwaukee #bomb #hero #explosive #learnontiktok
