It's because we associate thinness with morality. If you work hard to achieve it, then you're worthy. If you eat garbage and don't move your body but you are skinny, nobody cares because you're skinny. If you don't lose weight in the traditional way, it's "cheating" or "not fair". It's BS.

As someone who spent about 20 years of my life very stressed about that, and someone who started my career in medical malpractice consulting, I have serious concerns about prescribing GLP-1’s for not medically essential weight loss. They’re an incredible tool for people with medical conditions that make losing weight difficult to impossible, but I have seen a ton of healthy women start taking them and they look malnourished. There is a very similar marketing and distribution path to that of Fen-Phen and as always, the companies don’t issue this medication with a proper care plan to easing off of it and maintaining a healthy weight in your day-to-day life if possible. It’s concerning that more and more American women are choosing the aesthetic of frail and malnourished.
