@thendneutralmethod: Does your autistic child constantly chew on their clothes, pencils, or other objects? Before assuming it's a habit they need to break, consider whether they're trying to meet an oral sensory need. In Part 7 of my autism sensory series, we're talking about oral sensory seeking and how understanding the need behind the behavior can change the way we respond. Here's a tip: Pay attention to WHEN your child starts chewing. Is it during homework? While concentrating? When they're anxious, bored, or overwhelmed? Recognizing those patterns can help you figure out when additional sensory support might be useful. And remember, not every chew tool feels the same. Some children prefer soft, flexible textures, while others seek firmer resistance. Finding the right fit may take some experimenting. If you'd like to explore the oral sensory tools I recommend, visit the link in my bio called Autism Products Worth Exploring. I've organized curated lists to make finding options easier. The goal isn't just to stop the chewing. It's to give our children a safer way to meet that need. 😉 #AutismSensoryNeeds #OralSensorySeeking #autismparenting

she prefers silicone to chew on because like she got a toothbrush yesterday and it's like a hard plastic but it's got a silicone back to it and she keeps chewing on it but she keeps trying to take her front teeth and take the silicone off
