Our hearts are broken. Our sweet Gilbert passed away. This one is especially hard because we still don't know what happened to him or why his little body couldn't pull through. Gilbert spent the entire day undergoing tests, and despite everyone's best efforts, we couldn't find an explanation for what was happening. His breathing was good, his blood pressure and heart rate were normal, his blood sugar was good, his bloodwork came back good, and his X-rays didn't show anything concerning. On paper, everything looked okay. But something was happening inside his little body that none of us could see. It's heartbreaking to lose a kitty, but there's something especially painful about losing one when you don't even know what you're fighting against. What brings us some comfort is knowing that Gilbert wasn't in pain. He was comfortable, he was eating his snacks like an absolute maniac, and most importantly, he was loved. Even though his time with us was incredibly short, he knew kindness, warmth, and people who were fighting for him. We want to thank everyone who donated towards Gilbert's emergency medical bills and care. Because of you, we were able to give this sweet boy every fighting chance. Any funds raised beyond the cost of Gilbert's medical care will go directly towards helping our next rescue in need. Although we couldn't save Gilbert, your kindness will help us continue giving other kitties a chance at life. We may not have been able to save him, but we made sure he didn't have to spend his final hours alone, suffering in the heat, and without love. We wish so badly that his story had a different ending. Rest peacefully, sweet Gilbert. We tried so hard for you, little guy. You mattered, you were loved, and you won't be forgotten. We love you, Gilbert.
