@holychucklespodcast: My cat Tiny has a funny way of reminding me that being loved doesn't necessarily mean we know how to respond to love. I can be sitting there minding my own business, loving that little fellow with everything I've got, and suddenly he decides my arm looks like a perfectly reasonable place to practice his biting skills. And while I don't particularly appreciate being mistaken for a chew toy, I've started looking at his behavior differently. Tiny has experienced fear, pain, and uncertainty. And although his circumstances have changed, some of those old responses are still there. It has made me reflect on my own life. There have been times when I've struggled with myself, questioned my worth, or carried feelings I hadn't fully understood. And sometimes those struggles affected the people who cared about me. Not because I didn't love them. But because I was still learning how to love myself. That doesn't excuse causing pain. And loving someone doesn't mean we have to accept behavior that hurts us. But it has helped me recognize that sometimes the way we treat others reveals something within ourselves that still needs healing. And perhaps learning to love ourselves is part of learning how to love others differently. Have you ever recognized that something you were struggling with personally was affecting how you treated the people who loved you?
