@aslongastheresmusic: If you listen to Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Cream, or Doors, you are listening to songs written by a 6-foot-6 double-bass player from Mississippi named Willie Dixon. In the 1950s, Dixon was the secret backbone of Chess Records in Chicago. He wasn't just playing double bass; he was the head session producer, talent scout, and primary songwriter. He wrote "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Spoonful," "I Just Want to Make Love to You," and "You Shook Me"—defining the entire sonic architecture of Chicago Blues. When British rock bands exploded in the 1960s, they took Dixon's heavy, driving basslines, hypnotic grooves, and lyrics, re-recorded them with cranked guitar amps, and claimed the songs as their own. Led Zeppelin lifted his compositions for major hits like "Whole Lotta Love" without listing his name on the record credits, forcing Dixon to launch decade-long legal battles just to reclaim his publishing rights. Without Willie Dixon's pen, arrangement style, and bass grooves, 1970s stadium rock and roll simply wouldn't exist. Welcome to Part 36. We are giving the true architects their credit back. 🎸🔊 Is Willie Dixon the most influential songwriter in rock history? Let's argue below 👇 (Listen to Willie Dixon's original 1950s studio recordings on the Archive of Sound playlist in my bio 🎧) #MusicHistory #WillieDixon #ChessRecords #BluesHistory #RockAndRoll
