What preparation can do is shift some things in your favor before you're in it. A preconception visit is the piece most often skipped. It's a chance to get blood pressure, thyroid, iron and any existing conditions looked at while there's still time to address them, and to review medications that may need changing. It's also the moment to choose your care team deliberately. Many women find that a provider who listens, and where available a doula, changes how heard they feel throughout.
