@chriswillx: What A Bear Learned From Polish Soldiers

Nathan :

Wojtek was also made a private because the British refused to just have a random bear in battle with them and for his contributions he was ranked up so at one point people in the polish army were out ranked by a bear

Ichooserandomnick :

he liked to drink bear, loved cigarettes( ate them), also some soldiers brave enough wrestled with Wojtek. Was officially enlisted into Polish army, after the British refused to let him on their ship, because"no pets allowed'. After this Wijtek had official rank, papers etc. He lived his life after the war in Edinburgh zoo. Polish soldiers often visited him, jumping the fence.

Jose :

Wojtek was not the first bear in the Polish Army, previously there was Baśka Murmańska, who even gave a paw to Chief Piłsudski on the parade.

Toth :

He was at the rank of corporal, so privates had to salute him [Laugh approved]

lightworker :

statue in Edinburgh

Wojtek Kaska :

Wojtek is short for Wojciech. it means "jolly warrior" or "warrior bringing joy"

AK :

And even after he was put into the zoo after the war, the Polish soldiers used to visit him in the zoo. There is a beautiful song about him called Wojtek by Marika. Highly recommend it

fancysheet :

i have a book about Wojtek

M0THER5H1P :

Wojtek skończył w Edynburgu, w zoo. Podzielił los żołnierzy, którzy nie mogli wrócić do kraju, bo sojusznicy oddali Polskę Stalinowi. Czekało by ich tam prześladowanie. Brytole, żabojady! Do was mówię, NIGDY WAM TEGO NIE ZAPOMNIMY. Na pohybel wam!
