you’re going to change. Some will say for worst others say for better. Don’t let accommodating other peoples feelings cloud your judgement of doing what you swore you would do and being a better officer.

don't bring the job home stay humble . ive got 12 yrs in a its still hard to not bring it home. take time off for sure the job doesnt care abt u or ur family. Go to therapy u need to be able to talk abt it to someone. and last but not least don't trust inmates or admin and most staff. find that 1 partner u can trust. Dm me if u need anything im in socal as well cvsp was my home and now im at a new socal prison

Keep your head on a swivel, don't bring anything in, don't fall in love with an inmate, don't get caught up in anything stupid. If it feels wrong, it is wrong. Don't be someone your not. Be Firm, Fair, and Consistent. You will get played, learn from it. Always say NO or I will see what I can do, no promises. Be a good relief and don't call in sick on a holiday.

A lot of good advice so far. One thing you you’ll have to watch out for is other staff as well. You’ll be surprised about how fake other officers can turn out to be. It’s almost like high school all over again. Don’t fully trust anyone.

Don’t be a butt kisser to supervisors. Know who you are working for and working with. Supervisors and your partners can be your worst enemies. Inmates always lie don’t get manipulated. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Pick your battles. Don’t show fear inmates can tell right away. Coming from a 26 year veteran.
