imo i feel like the black is for more grittier detective style and brooding but blue is for jollier and brighter storylines with the bat family in it somewhere showing a clear difference in batman being alone vs having his whole family with him

Batman only actually started wearing blue fr when adam west portrayed him in the kids show. The blue in every comic before that is a common shading technique they actually teach you in school but was mostly used for printed comics for conservation of time in the designing process because the shading would have had to been really technical with how meh the printers were.
