@draizident: That blood pressure medication some people place under the tongue to bring down BP quickly could put a patient’s life at risk. It is called sublingual nifedipine, and this practice is not recommended because it can cause an unpredictable and excessive drop in blood pressure, potentially leading to serious complications, including stroke, heart-related complications and even death. And this is not just my personal opinion. The Nigerian Hypertension Society’s 2020 guidelines explicitly state: “The use of sublingual nifedipine is not recommended due to the risk of sudden death.” A very high blood pressure reading does not automatically mean the pressure should be brought down rapidly. Proper assessment is essential, especially to determine whether there is acute damage to vital organs. Important clarification: This warning applies specifically to sublingual nifedipine (placed under the tongue). It does not mean that all forms or routes of administration of nifedipine are dangerous. Nifedipine has legitimate medical uses when prescribed appropriately. Let’s move away from practices simply because they have been done for years. Blood pressure management must be evidence-based, not trial and error. Hypertension, high blood pressure, blood pressure medication, nifedipine, hypertensive urgency, hypertensive emergency, stroke prevention, antihypertensive drugs and patient safety. #tallnigeriandoctor #draizident

It’s only given in acute hypertension. But it’s not commonly given. Clonidine is what is commonly given.

Always gauage if your audience really understands what you are saying or trying to impart. Sometimes misunderstanding is even worse than not knowing.

Can’t you just adjust the dosage of the drug rather than avoiding it altogether

Seeing how people can easily misconstrue what you’re saying, how about emphasizing it’s the sublingual (under the tongue) Nifedipine and not regular (swallowed by mouth) Nifedipine

Weldon chief, I believe you're referring to the sublingual route administration of nifedipine. I think you should have made more emphasis that you are referring to the sublingual route and not orally because most of your viewers will not pay attention to details in the video.
