Authorities have arrested 15-year-old Anthony Rivers III in connection with the tragic incident that erupted just outside Bragg Memorial Stadium following the school’s homecoming football game. The shooting, which began as a physical altercation between individuals who knew each other, ultimately left 11 people wounded by gunfire and a 12th person injured while trying to flee the chaos. Heartbreakingly, six of the victims are minors, with the youngest being just 11 years old. Police Chief Lawrence Revell stated that none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets—they were completely innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire of a crowded street corner. Because the area was packed with food trucks, vendors, and celebrating crowds, responding ambulances initially struggled to even navigate through the streets to reach those bleeding on the pavement. State Attorney Jack Campbell has announced that Rivers III will be charged as an adult, facing 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
