Yeah, but like THANK GOD. It’s weird, I think it gets easier to accept as you go through more heartbreak. The outcome always outweighs the pain of letting go so you just have to keep reminding yourself.

it’s grieving the thought of what could have been. knowing that once you’re done, there’s no turning back. once the feelings are gone they’re GONE.

It’s part of disappointment for me in general. Even in the beginning, I know I will never see that person the same way and it hits me all the harder for it. I don’t really think they are thinking that when they disappoint you.

Bit of advice for people: if you were suddenly discarded by an avoidant, try and find a way to get the ick about them. Disgust is an extremely powerful, base emotion. It will also help you if the avoidant circles back to you

Its so interesting how grief changes us. My breakup in 2024 quite literally changed me forever and I’m grateful for it. I was able to have my eyes open and see how absolutely toxic and unhealthy my ex was for me after being blind and losing my sense of self for the four years we were together. So much has come up in the years following and it’s allowed me to recognize certain behaviors in potential partners and be able to love myself so much more again.

Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness.
It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift.

Started meditating over death because of this. We own nothing and everything is temporary. Live.

You’ve really encapsulated it for me. I went through a breakup over the summer. When I was in the grief, I also knew there would be a second death of coming out the other side. It’s easier but still sad. Thank you for this.

100% I’m not the same person I was. My breakup happened in 2024. It’s been a long road.

My toxic trait is doing this before I leave 🤷♀️not that anyone has deserved my honesty about it. I wouldn’t know what to do in a situation where I wasn’t absolutely a victim [Tears of joy]

i gave him a letter the last time we saw each other for this reason. i knew i would never be that person again. the love is still there but that version of us is dead and gone.

There’s a particular kind of grief in realizing you’re not just letting go of someone, but also the version of yourself that existed with them. And sometimes healing means learning who you are now, without trying to become who you were before. 🤍

Yes, but I find after I have truly passed through it to something new, I don't hold on to it. At least not in the pained and grievous way. There's something companionable even in the hardship. I think also it's the recognition of the necessary and immutable purpose it held in my life, a bend in the road that had to be taken to be myself.
Life is full of these moments, not just breakups. Becoming, unbeing. Memories change shape and fade and suddenly it has always been this way.
