My favorite is when someone is being ignored and interrupted in a group and I look them dead in the eye through the group and say "what were u saying? something about xyz?"..

I have a neighbor that is so precise about keeping his yard mowed and tidy. It would upset him so much on the 4th of July when we would put off fireworks in the street between our houses because little bits of paper would end up in his yard. He would actually leave home that day so as not to get upset. I fought with my husband and insisted we move the fireworks to an empty parking lot down the street away from his yard. He was so appreciative, he now mows my yard while my hubby is away working.

You shared because the apathy in our country disgusts you. It disgusts me as well. Empathy should not be so rare as that when it happens it makes the news. There is power in the echoes of small kindnesses. Keep spreading kindness.

As a person who has a lot of issues around food this means more than you know. Even getting food at the same place all the time makes me feel embarrassed

Being “seen” by some other human is life affirming. When a stranger or another acquaintance sees you, it’s truly a magical experience for people that feel completely unseen. This one hit me today.

as someone with OCD I needed to read this 😞 I spend so much of my time trying to figure out how to not inconvenience anyone with my issues I end up not going out. I wait for my kids to go to bed to fix the dishes in the cabinets so I dont make them feel bad about how they put them away. I've told them how I like them but they can't remember the color pattern. my issues are not their problem 🤦🏻♀️ehhh but thank-you for making his days a little easier even though it was hard on you

This is what love is. It doesn't seek anything other than the happiness of it's object. And, yes, it can be given to a complete stranger, or, in this case, a not so complete stranger.

because some of us have ocd and we didn’t realize it, and some of us have lovely coworkers with ocd and now we’re able to love them well

This!! We all forget that we are all fighting battles no one sees and it’s so refreshing when a stranger sees your struggle and makes an effort to make an interaction just a little bit better.

Context can change EVERYTHING. I love this story. The world is harsh sometimes and we all put up with more than our fair share of crap from each other. But sometimes we just need to get a little glimpse of the “why” behind someone’s behavior and it can change how our hearts respond.

I too am ocd and have severe food aversions. I also feel like people think I’m being rude when I ask for certain things but I’m really not. It’s exhausting for me. This was refreshing.

This is me with Grilled Cheese. Yes I am a 35yr old adult. But I’m always so thankful to the real ones who let me eat my favorite safe food Grilled Cheese. It’s seriously a blessing because it makes me feel like I belong in a space that used to give me such pain. ❤️😭

I used to have a library patron tell me the exact same joke every week. He’d wait for me, he’d tell me the joke. I decided I was going to learn his joke to beat him to the punch. By the time I memorized his joke I found him so endearing I couldn’t burst his bubble. 20+ years later I still remember his joke. I’m sure he has since passed but I think of him fondly.

there was a lady who shows where I worked and she was very precise about how her groceries were bagged. two rolls of paper towels per bag. tissue boxes -no more than 3 per bag. and so on. and please double bag them. and I would throw in extra bags.. in case the ones she had broke. she was always afraid that would happen. and she was pretty hard of hearing. my other co-workers were annoyed by her. I found out she was in fact hilarious. but she lived alone, up several flights of stairs, shopped for her daughter.. and her bags broke once trying to go up those stairs. it takes just a few moments to learn about someone, and to not make them feel like a burden. we're all human. that's all.

I did this as a bartender. Being seen is so important and being accomodated for means the world to some. It’s so easy to be aware.
