On Monday, October 12, 2026, brothers Maddox Larger, 15, and Grant Larger, 14, were near a pond in Carmel, Indiana, when they suddenly heard a splash. When they looked into the water, they saw a grandmother struggling to stay afloat. A four-year-old child was strapped to her back, while a stroller carrying a two-year-old was partly underwater. Without wasting time, both brothers jumped into the pond to help. They managed to bring the grandmother and the older child safely out of the water. But the younger child was still in risk. Maddox, who is a swimmer with the Carmel Swim Club, went back into the pond and pulled out the stroller. He quickly unbuckled the toddler and began giving him back slaps to help him breathe again. Thankfully, the little boy started breathing. By the time police officers and firefighters arrived at around 11:15 a.m., both children were awake, conscious, and crying. Carmel officials praised the brothers for their brave actions. They said the boys’ quick response likely saved the toddler’s life and described their efforts as “heroic.” The city also announced plans to honour Maddox and Grant for stepping in to help when the family needed them most.
