as a non black person, that's so raven, family matters, fresh prince these are all black shows. doesn't make them unrelatable to non-POC. I might not ever be able to truly understand black culture from the lens of a black person, but I have an appreciation for a culture that helped raise me.

Yeah it was a universal show but the family was blackity black. Like we never saw it as anything else so it definitely did sound like she was downplaying how iconic it was to have a fully black LA family as the main family in a show at that time and especially on that channel.

All those other identities see themselves in US. Such is also the black experience. She didn’t have a normal childhood so I understand why it isn’t clicking for her. But I hate that she feels so limited my blackness, when black expression is so freeing.

Black IS universal and she helped do that. That’s all the original person was trying to say. People can still relate to it and find power in it even if they’re not black, you don’t have to say Raven was racially ambiguous to appeal to more people.
