This life, it is only God that can save us. The issue of religion and Christianity has caused a lot of havoc in many homes because some people are afraid to speak out. Everybody wants the world to believe that they are living in a Christian home, even when things are not right behind closed doors.
In my own opinion, what people may describe as an accident could sometimes be the result of domestic violence. I have witnessed situations like this in our mortuary.
I remember a case where a man’s corpse was brought from Lagos to our morgue. We were told that the man had slumped on the staircase. The man had two wives, one living in Nigeria and the other outside the country.
During the embalming process, we discovered a very deep hole in the man’s head and heel marks in two places. However, the first wife maintained that her husband had slumped on the staircase, while the truth, as we came to understand it, was that the second wife had allegedly hit him with the heel of her shoe.
This experience taught me that there is often more to some stories than what people are willing to reveal. We should never be too quick to judge situations based only on what we hear.
Anything can happen at any time, and that is why it is important for everyone to learn how to control their anger, manage their attitudes, and handle disagreements peacefully. No matter how angry we become, we must learn to walk away from situations that could lead to irreversible consequences.
Christianity should not be a cover for suffering in silence. A peaceful home is not built on appearances but on love, understanding, respect, and self-control. May God continue to protect our homes and give us the wisdom to do what is right. Amen.
