@thesameerproject: Look closely at their small bare feet. At their little hands…hands that should be holding toys, pencils, or school bags not carrying water containers instead. Look at this child standing in line for water as if this is simply part of an ordinary day. As if waiting for water is normal. As if learning how to carry a heavy container before getting the chance to simply be a child is something we should ever accept. But this is not normal. It never was! The children of Gaza have not only been forced to grow up far too quickly. They have been denied some of the most basic things every child should have without question: safety, water, a home, a school, and the right to simply be a child. And the question remains: How did the world watch a child this young stand barefoot in a water line, carrying something far heavier than childhood should ever have to carry and begin to treat that image as normal? Where are the rights of Gaza’s children in all of this? And how can the world accept any child being made to live through what they have lived through?
