@melina.lately: Many foreigners in China find it extremely difficult to form deep friendships here. There are a lot of cultural barriers, and for me, one of the biggest has been the stigma around mental health. In the past, I’ve tried opening up about it and have been met with misunderstanding and judgment. Since then, I don’t usually bring up the topic unless I’m around foreigners. And after living in China for years, I completely understand the culture and why people react this way and have absolutely no hard feelings. Im able to navigate friendships while avoiding this topic to respect people’s boundaries. This is not a criticism of the culture, just something I’ve had to learn to adjust to. Obviously not everyone has these opinions and I have a lot of positive relationships here. But for me, if I can’t talk about these things, there’s a limit to how deep the friendships can be. #lifeinchina #expatlife #MentalHealth #culturedifferences #china

Chinese culture is so different from what you are used to in your country. You just have to adapt

just need to find right circle ⭕ as a Chinese who spent half of my life in different countries. I felt that: just don't treat them as "Chinese" but certain people

You need to connect with the right kind of Chinese people. And something gets lost in translation too. I would say the more working class poeple the better. You need to spend more time out of the city urban environment. Nowadays the kindest hearts are in the rural areas. Those people too, had suffered judgements. Try and get away further if you can.

You all blame foreigners for not adapting to your country and then you refuse to adapt to China. I have lived 4 years in China, made friends from all walks of life and and I loved it

The harder part isn't meeting people, it's that "Chinese" covers a huge range. Plenty of people here are completely at home with a foreign partner, plenty really aren't, and it's not a judgment either way. More options doesn't help, a better filter does, which is the job OnlyYou does: both sides set conditions first, so the fit is already there.

China is basically its own world, the majority of them have no idea what’s going on outside China. You can clearly see the disconnect between the Chinese civilization and the rest of the world, that’s what a firewall does to a population.
