@viralnews.usa: Actress Barbara Barrie shared a deeply personal reflection about her cancer battle in one of her final interviews before choosing to end her life with medical assistance at the age of 95. The Oscar-nominated actress discussed her experience during a May 2024 interview for the series How Art Changed Me. She recalled undergoing chemotherapy every Thursday while working on the Broadway production After-Play in the mid-1990s. Despite her treatment, Barbara was determined to continue performing. She explained that she would travel to Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital for treatment before returning to rehearsals. While her colleagues went to lunch, she would take a nap so she could continue working. Looking back, she described that period as a major turning point in her career. She realized that acting meant so much to her that she was willing to endure difficult treatment just to keep telling stories. "I think that's because ... I want to tell the story. Not my story, but the story," she reflected. Her daughter, Jane Harnick, later confirmed that Barbara had been diagnosed with terminal cancer before her passing. According to The New York Times, the actress chose medical assistance to end her life at her Manhattan home. She was 95. Barbara leaves behind her daughter Jane and son Aaron. Her husband, Jay Harnick, passed away in 2007. Throughout her career, she earned recognition for performances in Breaking Away, Suddenly Susan, and numerous Broadway productions. Her final public appearance was in March 2025. Behind her remarkable career was a woman who continued to find meaning in telling stories, even during her most difficult moments.
