🔨 Can hammering metal make it hot enough to glow? The answer is yes—but not the way most people think. 🤯 Every hammer strike transfers kinetic energy into the metal. Part of that energy is converted into heat through plastic deformation, friction, and internal changes within the material. As the blows continue, the workpiece gradually becomes warmer. Blacksmiths use this effect during forging, but the hammer contributes only a small fraction of the total heat. The forge supplies the vast majority of the energy needed to reach forging temperatures—typically 700–900°C or higher, depending on the metal. While heavy impacts can sometimes produce sparks or localized heating, hammering cold metal alone won't make it glow red-hot or ignite a fire under normal conditions. What looks like brute force is actually a fascinating demonstration of energy transformation—from mechanical motion into heat. ⚙️🔥 #Physics #Blacksmithing #Forging #Engineering Science STEM Energy DidYouKnow Knowledge
