Rhode Island State Senator Joshua Miller was arrested and charged with vandalism and obstructing a police officer after keying an SUV displaying a "Biden sucks" bumper sticker. The Incident • When and Where: June 22, 2023, in the parking lot of the Garden City Center in Cranston, Rhode Island. • What Happened: The owner and passenger of a Nissan SUV heard a scratching noise and saw Miller—who was parked next to them—standing near their vehicle with keys in his hand. • The Sighting: The passenger noticed a "Re-elect Senator Josh Miller" bumper sticker on Miller's car, looked up the name online. Initial Denial: When pulled over by Cranston police later that day, Miller denied damaging the car, claimed he felt threatened, and mentioned being a state senator. • Admission: Later that night at his home, Miller admitted to police that he had keyed the vehicle. • Charges: He was charged with vandalism/malicious injury to property and obstruction of an officer for lying to police during the initial stop. Court Outcome • In July 2023, Miller pleaded no contest to vandalism and obstruction charges. • He was ordered to pay $2,850 in restitution and issued a public apology for a "lack of self-control".
