@steviclashofficial: The first sessions are all about connection. 🤎 When I begin working with a horse, especially a young OTTB, my first focus is helping them learn how to bring their attention back to me. This 5-year-old is carrying a lot of anxious energy, and his mind is easily pulled in a hundred different directions. Rather than fighting the distractions or constantly trying to keep his attention, I’m focusing on my awareness of my own body, my intention, and the subtle changes in his body language. I notice when his focus shifts, when his body changes, and when his mind begins to leave the conversation. From there, I simply invite him to reconnect. No constant nagging. No unnecessary pressure. No chasing his attention. I remain consistent in my intention and give him the opportunity to find his way back to me. The goal isn’t to demand a horse’s attention. It’s to develop the awareness, understanding, and communication that allow connection to become a habit. Before we can build liberty, refine skills, or ask for more complicated things, we have to establish the foundation: two beings learning to communicate, listen, and stay connected.
