DEMOCRATS TAKE THE LEAD IN FIVE KEY SENATE BATTLEGROUNDS AS ELECTION DAY APPROACHES United States — Democrats are showing unexpected strength in several crucial Senate races, according to the final New York Times/Siena Research Institute polls released ahead of the November 3, 2026, midterm elections. The surveys examined seven competitive states that could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate. Michigan recorded the biggest Democratic advantage. Abdul El-Sayed leads Republican Mike Rogers by 53% to 42%. Texas also showed a significant Democratic lead. James Talarico received 50% support, compared with 43% for Republican Ken Paxton. In Kansas, Democrat Adam Hamilton leads Republican Senator Roger Marshall, 49% to 44%. Other Democratic candidates are also ahead: • Maine: Troy Jackson leads Republican Senator Susan Collins, 51% to 45%. • Ohio: Sherrod Brown leads Republican Senator Jon Husted, 49% to 44%. However, the remaining two races are much closer. In Alaska, Democrat Mary Peltola leads Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, 48% to 46%. In Iowa, Democrat Josh Turek leads Republican Ashley Hinson, 48% to 47%, making the contest virtually tied. The Michigan race also experienced a major political development. Democratic Representative Haley Stevens, who previously competed against El-Sayed in the party's primary, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on November 1, shortly before Election Day. Meanwhile, Republicans have questioned the accuracy of the polling. President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson campaigned together in Iowa, where Johnson challenged the surveys. "You can dismiss the polls," Johnson told a rally in Dubuque, Iowa. "The polls are wrong all around the country." According to Siena Research Institute, the polls' margins of error ranged from 3.4 to 5 percentage points, depending on the state. Although the numbers suggest Democrats could make significant gains, the results do not guarantee victory. The Senate majority remains uncertain, and voters will have the final say on Election Day. Could Democrats be heading toward a major Senate breakthrough, or will Republicans defy the final polls? #USPolitics #SenateRace #Michigan #Texas #japd
