Respectfully... what even is rice cereal? 👀 The 6–12 month period is one of the most nutritionally important times in your child’s life. 🧠 Their brain is rapidly developing. 📉 Their iron stores are becoming depleted. 🌱 They’re growing faster than they’ll grow at almost any other stage. Yet one of the most common first foods we’re told to feed them is... rice cereal? A highly processed food that’s fortified with iron because there isn’t any in there there naturally. At Boob to Food, we take a different approach. Instead of trying to add nutrients back into processed foods, we’d rather start with foods that already contain them. Think: 🥩 Slow-cooked red meat 🫀 Liver (in small amounts) 🥚 Eggs 🐟 Oily fish 🫘 Lentils and beans 🍗 Chicken These foods don’t just provide iron - they offer protein, healthy fats, zinc, choline, B vitamins and so many of the nutrients growing babies need And yes... before anyone asks, we also don’t recommend rice cereal because the added iron it contains can be quite constipating for many babies, especially when compared with naturally iron-rich whole foods. Your baby only eats tiny amounts in those early months. Every mouthful is an opportunity to nourish them. That’s exactly why we created Boob to Food and our book Milk to Meals, to help parents feel confident feeding real food from the very beginning, without the overwhelm or conflicting advice. #boobtofood #milktomeals #startingsolids #babyfood #blw
