That was my dad. When he was 11 his dad passed & a year to the day his mum died leaving a baby & 2 girls & 2 boys. His 16 year old sister took them all on & brought them up. This was the early 40's. Very very sad. I knew this to be true, because I started work at 16 & chatting to a women there who knew them all, her words omg they were so poor it was heartbreaking.
