steve biko, winnie mandela and so many others fought for a south africa where the next generation could live with dignity, freedom and equal opportunity. i wonder what they would think if they could see the state of things today. honestly, i feel defeated. people of today have failed them. after everything they sacrificed, everything they endured and the lives that were lost, it is heartbreaking to watch a country that was fought so hard for seemingly move backwards. i can only imagine how much their spirits must be bleeding to see some of the things happening today. i hope wherever they are, they know that their fight was not forgotten, even if the people who inherited the freedom they fought for have failed to honour it. the struggle was never supposed to end with freedom; it was supposed to be the beginning of something better.
