#lifting #interviews #hsetraining #foryoupage #foryou *TOP 10 LIFTING & RIGGING QUESTIONS - FINAL* *1. What is the difference between Lifting and Rigging?* Lifting is the overall operation of raising, lowering, and moving a load using a crane or lifting equipment. Rigging is the process of preparing the load for lifting by selecting, inspecting, and connecting lifting accessories like slings, shackles, and hooks to the load and ensuring proper balance and Center of Gravity. *2. What is the difference between Lifting Plan and Load Chart?* Load Chart is provided by the crane manufacturer and shows the crane's capacity at different radius, boom length, and boom angles. Lifting Plan is a site-specific document prepared by the Appointed Person which includes load weight, Center of Gravity, rigging details, crane position, ground conditions, wind speed, and step-by-step lifting methodology. *3. What documents are required before starting any lifting activity?* PTW, approved Lifting Plan, Load Chart, Pre-Use Inspection Checklist for Crane and Lifting Gears, Third Party Certificate (TPI) for Crane and all Lifting Accessories, Vehicle / Equipment Entry Certificate, Operator Competency Certificate, Rigger and Banksman Competency Certificate, Soil Bearing Capacity Report, and Lifting Area Barrication Plan. *4. What are the types of slings?* There are mainly 4 types of slings: 1) Wire Rope Sling, 2) Chain Sling, 3) Webbing Sling / Synthetic Sling (Polyester), 4) Round Sling. Each has different safety factors and applications. *5. What is the purpose of a Safety Latch on a hook?* The safety latch prevents the sling or lifting accessory from accidentally slipping out of the hook during lifting operations. If the safety latch is broken, damaged, or missing, lifting operations are strictly prohibited. *6. What is Anti-Two Block (ATB) and what to do if it fails?* Anti-Two Block is a safety device that prevents the hook block from hitting the boom tip, known as two-blocking. As per ADNOC standard, if ATB fails, all lifting operations must be stopped immediately. Bypassing ATB is not allowed. *7. Where should Tag Line be used and where should it not be used?* Tag line is used to control load rotation, prevent spinning, and guide the load safely. It should not be wrapped around the hand or body, should not be used near open edges, and should not be used if it can pull a person under the suspended load or cause entanglement. *8. What safety devices are used in a crane?* Main safety devices in a crane are: 1) Anti-Two Block (ATB), 2) Load Moment Indicator (LMI) / Rated Capacity Limiter (RCL), 3) Boom Angle Indicator, 4) Boom Length Indicator, 5) Anemometer (Wind Speed Indicator), 6) Hoist Limit Switch, 7) Outrigger Position Indicator, 8) Level Indicator, 9) Emergency Stop Button, 10) Horn and Beacon Light, 11) Anti-Collision Device when multiple cranes are working. *9. What are the main precautions / controls before starting lifting?* 1) Ensure valid PTW and approved Lifting Plan, 2) Barricade lifting zone with hard barrication and display signage - Lifting in Progress, Crane Swing Area, 3) Check ground condition, soil compaction report and use outrigger mats, 4) Conduct Tool Box Talk for all involved personnel, 5) Check weather, wind speed must be below 32 km/h, 6) Inspect crane and all lifting gears with valid TPI and pre-use checklist, 7) Ensure competent operator, rigger, and banksman, 8) Identify load weight and Center of Gravity, 9) Keep unauthorized persons away and never stand under suspended load, 10) Ensure proper communication via hand signals or radio, 11) Use correct PPE and tag lines, 12) Ensure adequate lighting for night lifting. *10. What is the actual difference between SWL, WLL, and MBL?* MBL is Minimum Breaking Load tested in a laboratory. WLL is Working Load Limit calculated as MBL divided by Safety Factor and given by the manufacturer. SWL is Safe Working Load, which is an old term banned as per LOLER regulations because it does not consider site
