@madmires: A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, Javits Frimpong, has tragically lost his life after being shot while walking to school in the Bronx, New York. Javits had moved from Ghana to the United States just ONE YEAR ago to reunite with his father, Thomas Frimpong, and pursue a better future. According to his father, Javits had repeatedly complained about being bullied at school. His father revealed that two students had been suspended following an altercation involving his son, and that Javits had previously reported being harassed by another student. Police are investigating his killing, and a connection between the alleged bullying and the shooting has not yet been established. My heart genuinely breaks for this young boy and his family. But this tragedy also brings me back to an issue I’ve spoken about repeatedly: AFROPHOBIA. For far too long, we’ve witnessed sections of the Black community normalising hostility towards African immigrants, particularly online. Africans are subjected to racialised insults, dehumanisation, mockery and, in some instances, disturbing rhetoric suggesting that we should be harmed or killed. Some of this hostility is promoted and encouraged by people with sizeable platforms and influence. We need to understand that dehumanising people, normalising hatred and encouraging hostility have consequences. We cannot keep pretending that these attitudes exist in a vacuum. To be clear, we do not yet know the motive behind Javits’ killing. But we absolutely should be able to discuss the wider problem of Afrophobia and anti-African hostility without dismissing it. Black people around the world can acknowledge our different histories, ethnicities, cultures and identities while still treating one another with dignity and respect. We don’t have to be identical to respect one another. Rest in peace, Javits Frimpong. My condolences to Thomas Frimpong and the entire family. 🕊️🖤 #africantiktok #BlackTikTok #afrophobia #JavitsFrimpong #protectchildren

May his soul rest in perfect peace and even as a Ghanaian I feel very bad for his dad,mom and his family and friends and I don't know why SOME people are using this incident as a mockery because when it came to Nolan Wells I promise to y'all we Africans and African immigrants didn't mock his death but as soon as it's an African child now SOME of y'all are expressing your afrophobia like WHYYY😭😭😭😭

My best friend is Haitian and people used to make fun of her because she Haitian. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever met in my life. We are brothers and sisters in Christ and should treat each other as such. That poor family has to bury a BABY. People aren’t grasping the fact he was a BABY. He was %100 bullied because he was African. I have seen this countless times. Then you wonder why certain Africans don’t even want to associate themselves with African Americans, Hispanics, etc

And thing is his dad was kinda pushing him to go make friends with the kids playing in the neighborhood but he was too shy and was already being bullied because of his accent so he stayed too himself. So they love too say Africans tell their kids too stay way from African American kids when thats not the case here he wanted his son too make friends but ofc they killed this man's son his mom dont even believe it and is crying her eyes out
